Ten Years On – And still going strong!

After an extremely acrimonious franchise campaign, Bridge FM was awarded their licence on November 4th 1999.  The first meeting of those who as a result, had been dispossessed and excluded from local radio in their our own area; [Comprising of nearly 90% of the on-air team of the successful and extremely popular trial broadcasts that convinced the authorities that Bridgend should have it’s very own radio station.]  was jointly chaired by Alistair Irving and Mike Lincez and took place at the offices of SYSNET in Bridgend on Friday the 5th of November.

Following on from that, the later inaugural meeting of Celtica Radio took place sometime in February 2000, with Jane Cullen appointed as Chair, and Dave Cook providing all of the start-up capital.  Celtica Radio commenced test broadcasts on the internet at 8PM June 21st 2000.

  1. Nice to hear you are still about now retired and living in a barn near Ross on Wye with a dog if you pass this way drop in.

    Mike Lincez

  2. Congratulations on ten years of Celtica Radio. I’ve done two things to mark the occasion: made a small donation (you’ve heard of micro payments, well now you’ve received one) and spread the word here – http://twitter.com/David73277/status/16717828487

    Well done to all involved.

Personally I’d be an even bigger fan if it wasn’t for that “computers are all female” thing that gets played from time to time. I find it somewhat distasteful, but I also find it distasteful for self-elected moral guardians to impose their tastes on others, so I’ll shut up about that. I’d be intrigued to know what the Rev KBD thinks of it, perhaps he has a better sense of humour than I do?

Good luck for the next ten years.

    Regards,

  4. Happy Birthday!!

Unfortunately I’ll be in a meeting this evening, but I’ll have a listen tomorrow. At least you’ve lasted longer than England’s World Cup campaign……..

    All the best,
    Davy Cartwright.

  5. Happy 10th Birthdy for 21st June!

Crikey! Has it been that long?

I’ll be on my hol’s on the day so won’t be able to join in the festivities, So I’ll wish you all at Celtica Radio very many happy returns in advance.

Take care and all the best
