Pause for Thought

For some time now I’ve been thinking of how much our society today is trying to achieve perfection. We see and hear of thousands of women, and even men these days, who submit themselves to surgery, spending vast amounts of money to try and achieve that perfect look. The fashion industry are constantly changing the fashions and millions of people just have to have the “new” look - they just have to be perfect!

This week, here in the UK, we have heard of the woman who killed her daughter because she wasn’t perfect - she had a slight cerebral palsy. Last week Baroness Warnock said that people with Alzheimer’s disease should be given assisted suicide if they want it. I know that many families of Alzheimer’s sufferers do have a very hard time of looking after their loved ones but should we allow assisted suicide?

It seems to me that our society today is so obsessed with the perfect that there is no place for the old and infirm, those with inherited conditions, those who do not fit the mould of the perfect human being. I think that 60 years ago the world was fighting to stop Adolf Hitler from doing exactly the same thing and here we are going down the same road!

As a Christian I believe that every one of us was created in the image of God and as such we are perfect. We might have warts or a big nose or any number of complaints but we are PERFECT as we are. This unhealthy concern for achieving perfection only helps the people who are lining their pockets with your money. You are beautiful as you are.

The All New Underground Edition!

Hello there, this is Bill Everatt, with news about the all-new Underground Edition, but first of all I’d like to thank Andrew John for covering the last show for me.  One of our listeners contacted me a couple of days ago and said that he has a voice like Chocolate!  Mmmm! Tasty!

This weeks show marks the opening of a new chapter for Celtica Radio, as the programme is being broadcast on 1602Khz AM across parts of Europe and the East Coast of the UK on Radio Seagull for two hours starting at 23:00hrs GMT every Thursday night/ Friday morning.  And as always, Podcased and On-Line at www.celticaradio.com, we hope that this will be a successful endeavour and will be the first of many of our shows to broadcast on the Medium Wave across Europe. Don’t forget, if you’d like to get in touch with me about anything you hear on the programme, then please feel free to e-mail me at bill@celticaradio.com. Ok, in the brand new series of two hour programmes, this week, my special guest is an Americana artist from the UK, her name is Donna Marie, and we’ll be talking to her in the second hour.  Andrew John is back to his usual slot reporting on the strange goings on in the village of Little Bibbling Under Flossock.

We examine some well known and not so well known Urban Legends in the programme.  This week Robbie Peterson tells us the story of The Great Wall of China which it is believed can be seen from the surface of the moon.  And in the second part of this hour, Journalist Jim Sutherland will be delivering a report on the Music Scene, in and around Manchester in the UK, which has become a Mecca for unsigned and independent artists across Europe.

Also, who said this?  “It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.”  Now who do you think said that?Plus we’ve also got some great new music in this weeks programme from; Zeano, Miss Chaos, Spatial Unity, Sharp, Oliver Davies, The Strutts, Mowglee and Kehinde.
